  22. This program (Advanced ZIP Password Recovery, or simply AZPR)
  23. can be used to recover the lost password for a ZIP archive. At
  24. the moment, there is no known method to extract the password
  25. from the compressed file, so the only available methods are
  26. "brute force", dictionary-based and known-plaintext attacks.
  27.  
  28. Well, there are a lot of programs like this around, but
  29. all of them have their own "pros" and "cons". Here is a brief
  30. list of AZPR's advantages:
  31.  
  32. - The program has a convenient user interface
  33. - The program is very fast: up to fifteen million passwords per
  34.   second (on Pentium III)
  35. - The program can work with archives containing only one 
  36.   encrypted file (at about the same speed)
  37. - Self-extracting archives are supported
  38. - The program is customizable: you can set the password length
  39.   (or length range), the character set to be used to generate
  40.   the passwords, and a couple of other options
  41. - You can select the custom character set for brute-force attack
  42.   (non-English characters are supported)
  43. - Dictionary-based attack is available
  44. - The "brute-force with mask" attack is available
  45. - Very fast known-plaintext attack is available
  46. - No special virtual memory requirements
  47. - You can interrupt the program at any time, and start from the
  48.   same point later
  49. - The program can work in the background, using the CPU only 
  50.   when it is in idle state
  51.  
  52. The next versions will have much more useful features, of
  53. course.

  65. Known bugs and limitations
  66. --------------------------

  68. - If the archive contains only one encrypted fileand it is "stored"
  69.   (without compression, just with encryption) -- the performance might
  70.   be lower than expected, especially on large files, because decrypting
  71.   the whole file is required.
  72. - If the archive contains two or more encrypted files, the
  73.   program assumes that all of them are encrypted with the same
  74.   password.

  86. An unregistered version of AZPR has the following limitations:
  87.  
  88. - with a brute-force attack, passwords longer than 5 characters
  89.   cannot be recovered
  90. - some dictionary attack options are disabled
  91. - in known-plaintext attack:
  92.   - the decryption keys are not shown, and only the first file from
  93.     the archive can be decrypted
  94.   - attack cannot be resumed
  95.  
  96. After you register (look at "order.txt" for details), we'll
  97. send you your personal registration code. To enter it into the
  98. program, just press the "Register" button on the main screen;
  99. the program will display the small window dialog asking you to
  100. enter the code. If the code is correct, AZPR shows the message
  101. that it is registered now, and so since than has the full
  102. functionality.

  105. versions of AZPR -- it means, that they will be free for you.
